The Metropolitan Chicago Synod is one of 65 synods in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA).  The synod has 217 congregations in four counties in Illinois - Cook, DuPage, Kane, and Lake. The synod is further divided into eight conferences. The baptized membership of congregations in the synod in 2004 was 116,003.  The synod also supports ELCA-related and partner institutions

The mission statement of the Metropolitan Chicago Synod is:

"In Jesus' Name • Proclaim the Gospel • Make Disciples • Do Justice."  

The Rev. Wayne N. Miller is the bishop of the Metropolitan Chicago Synod.
