The Metropolitan Chicago Synod celebrates with MCS Council Member, Jennifer De Leon, as she joins the Office of the Presiding Bishop as the Director for Racial Justice.

“Jen brings remarkable wisdom, networks, and experience into this role,” said Kathryn Lohre, Executive of Ecumenical, Inter-Religious & Theological Discernment for the Office of the Presiding Bishop.

“As Jen becomes the ELCA Director of Racial Justice, she will no doubt continue to be a gift to the whole church as it pursues its call to the work of dismantling racism within our walls and in the world,” remarked Bishop Yehiel Curry of the Metropolitan Chicago Synod. 

Jen comes to this work as she completes her service as the Director for Justice for WELCA. Prior to that, she served as the Director of Government Relations at Lutheran Social Services of Illinois. Jen is a graduate of the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago and is the president of the Latino Ministries Association of the ELCA.

Thanks be to God for the work of the Spirit in Jennifer De Leon.

May her work in this role be life-giving to her and a blessing to many. 

El Sínodo Metropolitano de Chicago celebra junto a una de sus Consejeras, Jennifer De Leon, su incorporación a la Oficina de la Obispo Presidente, como Directora de Justicia Racial. 

“Jen aporta una sabiduría destacable, red de contactos y experiencia a este rol”, comentó Kathryn Lohre, Ejecutiva de Discernimiento Teológico, Interreligioso y Ecuménico de la Oficina de la Obispo Presidente. 

“En su rol como Directora de Justicia Racial de la ELCA, Jen seguirá siendo, sin dudas, un don para toda la iglesia en su llamado al trabajo de desmantelar el racismo dentro de nuestros muros y en el mundo”, remarcó el Obispo Yehiel Curry del Sínodo Metropolitano de Chicago. 

Jen llega a esta posición luego de completar su servicio como Directora de Justicia de WELCA. Anteriormente, se desempeñó como Directora de Relaciones Gubernamentales en Lutheran Social Services of Illinois. Jen se graduó del Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago y es la presidenta de la Asociación de Ministerios Latinos de la ELCA.
