Zion Lutheran in Deerfield Breaks Ground for Affordable Housing

Earlier in the spring, Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Deerfield held a ceremonial groundbreaking for an affordable housing complex of 25 rentals called Zion Woods on church property.

Associate to the Bishop Nathan Klein was on hand for the groundbreaking. Construction began last month. The units should be ready for occupancy in mid-2025. According to a story in Crain’s Chicago Business, two-bedroom units will rent for $550-$950 a month, compared to market rentals in the $2,100-$2,700 range. There will also be one- and three-bedroom units.

It was more than a decade ago that the church decided to donate adjacent undeveloped land to an affordable housing developer.
